3 Great Local Attractions to Discover Near Cottonwood, AZ

Enjoy nature with the family at the Blazin’ M Ranch in Cottonwood by enjoying the state park’s walking and hiking trails.

We’re a relatively young city here in Cottonwood, AZ. Our city was incorporated in 1960, and we’ve been growing since then. Our warm climate and beautiful natural surroundings have drawn visitors who’ve settled down and become locals. We’ve got a range of great local attractions in Cottonwood, some of which draw people from far and wide. We’d like to share with you some of our city’s outstanding places.

Blazin’ M Ranch

For family fun and entertainment, Blazin’ M has got everything. There’s a small museum filled with Western memorabilia, a working saloon, and an old-fashioned photo studio. The entertainment is based around a town from the Old West. There are stores galore, all decorated as though you’ve stepped back into Arizona’s past. “Branding Iron” sells memorabilia, “Rodeo Drive” specializes in women’s fashions, and “Gunslingers” has a huge range of Western clothing and accouterments.

Other activities include bull riding, tractor riding, ax throwing, and even using a real Colt Peacemaker. After all this excitement, you can eat a hearty Western-style in the barn, and try the delicious prickly pear dessert. There’s also a gift shop where you can get even more souvenirs of this awesome experience. Blazin’ M is open Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 5 pm to 9 pm. The ranch is located at 1875 Mabery Ranch Road, adjacent to Dead Horse Ranch State Park.

Clemenceau Heritage Museum

This hidden gem of museum chronicles the history of Cottonwood and its rich mining legacy. Rooms in the building are decorated in original early 20th-century style, including a bedroom, kitchen, an old telephone operator’s booth, and a classroom. All of the items are original and either donated or on loan from residents. The exhibits change regularly.

Railway enthusiasts will thoroughly enjoy the fabulous model railway that includes all seven railroad companies that operated in Cottonwood. The museum is staffed with volunteers who can add even more information on Cottonwood’s history. There is also a gift shop with interesting souvenirs. Clemenceau is located at 1 N Willard Street.

Dead Horse Ranch State Park

The state park in Arizona covers 320 acres and is set in one of the most beautiful areas in the Verde Valley. It contains numerous hiking and walking trails, and peaceful lagoons. Nature abounds here, and you can easily see gray foxes, deer, river otters, toads, and even snakes. You can also fish in the lagoons, although you need to bring your fishing equipment.

Accommodation is available in the form of eight one-room cabins, or you can rent a tent. If you have an RV, they have electric, water, and sewerage hookups. The park staff is friendly and accommodating and happy to advise on everything to see in the park. There is no food available, but the camping and cabin area has BBQ grills and picnic tables. The park is located at 675 Dead Horse Ranch Road.
