4 Things to Know About the Brand-New 2021 Ram 1500 TRXOff-roaders rejoice: For 2021, Ram trucks is launching a powerful, high-performance 1500 series pickup designed to tackle the toughest of terrain. Luxury finishes and modern technologies make it a well-rounded machine. Here’s what you need to know about the brand-new Ram 1500 TRX.

  1. Revolutionary Power

The TRX’s supercharged engine is the most powerful in its class. The 6.2-liter V-8 Hellcat generates an incredible 702 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. Pair that with an eight-speed automatic transmission, a two-speed transfer case, and an electronic locking rear differential, and you get a swift truck that can accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 4.5 seconds. Properly equipped, it can also tow up to 8,100 pounds. In a nutshell, you’re looking at the most powerful half-ton pickup ever produced.

An integrated dynamometer allows you to monitor and record your horsepower, torque, steering angle, and boost pressure on any given trip. You can view these stats and more on the digital cluster and 12-inch touch screen.

  1. Ingenious Intake System

To keep this beast of an engine functioning efficiently, Ram gifted the TRX with a new air intake system. It consumes up to 32.9 liters of air a minute and filters fourfold the debris and dirt as do competing high-performance trucks. The secret? The intake system draws air in from two paths — one at the grille and one at a hood scoop. Two heavy-duty filters collect debris before it can impair the truck’s performance, and two heat extractors and vents near the headlights help keep the engine cool.

  1. Sophisticated Suspension

The TRX’s independent front suspension and five-link, coil-spring rear suspension allow the truck to travel off-road in desert conditions at speeds up to 118 mph. It has 13 inches of suspension travel (the distance the suspension can compress) in the front and 14 inches in the rear.

The TRX is also the first noncommercial truck to receive Bilstein’s Black Hawk e2 shock system. It constantly adjusts the coil springs’ compression depending on the speed, steering, terrain, and drive mode (sport, snow, custom, mud/sand, rock, or Baja). As a result, the truck has superior body control and a smoother, more consistent ride both on the paved road and off.

  1. Wider and Taller Body

The Ram 1500 TRX’s body is 88 inches wide — that’s 8 inches wider than the traditional 1500. It also boasts a wider front track and taller fenders to fit around the truck’s 19-inch wheels and 35-inch tires. These dimensions improve the TRX’s handling and allow it to pull as much air into its new intake system as possible. Add 11.8 inches of ground clearance, and you’ve got a pickup that can tackle all the ruts, obstacles, deep sand, and water crossings you can throw at it.
