Does Your CDJR Vehicle Need New Headlights?

Over the years, you’ll need to visit your Dodge dealer for lots of different services. One thing you’ll need eventually is new headlights, as yours are going to get too dim to be effective after about 5 to 6 years. There are other reasons you may need to head to the dealer to replace the headlights, too, so let’s take a look at them.

The Headlights Have Stopped Working

Your headlights will generally flicker or get dimmer before they burn out completely. However, if yours are totally dead, then you might need to get new bulbs. If one is dead, then both bulbs will need to be replaced.

A blown fuse can cause one or both of your headlights to die, too. If you’re having problems with your battery, then you may also be unable to use your headlights.

The Headlights Have Become Dim

Headlights get dimmer gradually, so you might not notice the dimming at first. It may only become evident when the headlights are significantly dimmer than they once were.

A sudden and significant dimming of your headlights can be caused by a faulty battery, as the battery may not be able to supply enough power to keep the headlights as bright as they should be.

The Headlights Have Started to Flicker

Once the bulbs start to flicker, it’s only a matter of time before you’ll need to get your headlights replaced. Flickering is essentially your headlights trying to cling to life a little longer before they inevitably burn out.

Problems with your battery can also cause your headlights to start flickering, so if your headlights are relatively new, then you may have an electrical issue instead.

The Headlights Have Become Yellow or Hazy

Dirt and salt can build up on the outside of your headlight casing, and it can also get into the casing and coat the insides. This can give the headlights a hazy or yellow appearance, which impacts the color and quality of the light. You can typically wash the outside of the casing yourself with some baking soda and vinegar, but very dirty headlights may need to be cleaned at the dealer with a special solution for the job.

Sometimes sun damage can cause this yellowing or haziness, though, so you might need to have the whole headlight unit replaced.

The Headlights Are Physically Damaged

If your headlights are hit by something hard, then the casing may crack. Physical damage to the headlight casing can sometimes impact the effectiveness of the headlights. Even if the bulbs are unaffected, cracks can get larger, and some of the plastic casing may splinter off and damage the bulb, so visit the dealer for repair ASAP.

Come get your headlights replaced at Oxendale Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM. We’ll also test all of your exterior lights during routine maintenance.
