Dodge Transmission Care for Smooth Performance

Despite popular belief, most transmission problems are quick and inexpensive to repair if they’re detected when they start. If a transmission problem isn’t repaired, it will worsen and lead to additional damage. As your Dodge dealer, we can repair any possible transmission issue. These are a few of the signs you need to visit us for a transmission service.

Thudding Noises

Thudding noises when you are driving can be unnerving. These disturbing sounds are usually caused by a damaged transmission mount. Your transmission is attached to the frame by two transmission mounts made from toughened, liquid-filled rubber. The mounts absorb the movement of the transmission and they cushion it against movement as you drive.

Rubber eventually becomes less elastic and will crack. A deep enough crack in a transmission mount will cause the fluid to leak out. Without the fluid, the transmission will move up and down slightly as you drive. The mount can’t break free from your frame, but it will be damaged if it’s not firmly fixed in place. We’ll examine the mounts and replace them if necessary to fix this issue.

Burning Rubber Smell

Transmission fluid is vital for your transmission, as it provides the hydraulic pressure that enables the gears to shift smoothly. The fluid cools hot transmission components as it passes over them, and it protects them from damage by covering them in a friction-reducing coating. Transmission fluid ages and older fluid becomes less efficient.

Older also loses its heat resistance, and the hot transmission can cause the fluid to overheat. If the fluid gets hot, enough it will burn, and sensitive components like seals or gaskets can fail. We solve this problem by flushing your transmission to remove the old fluid then check the transmission is clean and refill it with fresh fluid.

Gear Slipping

Gear slipping is a potentially dangerous situation where your gears shift to their previous position without warning. This can easily result in an accident, particularly if your gears downshift and reduce your speed suddenly on the highway. You’ll feel the reduction in engine power, and it’s usually accompanied by the harsh sound of gears grinding against each other.

A slipping issue can be due to worn gear teeth, low transmission fluid, a damaged sensor, or a fault in your transmission computer. If this issue isn’t repaired, it will become more frequent, and the transmission will suffer additional damage. We’ll examine your transmission and repair it. We’ll also check the components for damage to ensure the transmission is working effectively.
