3 Summer Activities in Driving Distance of Cottonwood, AZ

The arrival of summer is an excellent opportunity to get out of the house and take in new experiences with your friends and family. Cottonwood, AZ, is the perfect place for discovering new summer activities to enjoy, with the surrounding area providing exciting events within easy driving distance. Here are a few suggestions to help get the ball rolling on a summer of fun.

Saturday Morning Train Rides

The area around Cottonwood is known for its stunning beauty, and what better way to discover it than by taking a train ride? Each Saturday from May through to September, the Verde Canyon Railroad schedules a trip that will take you on a scenic adventure, following the Verde River and taking you through the canyon and plains of the surrounding area.

The train leaves from Clarkdale depot, a short 15-minute drive north via S Broadway, at 10:30 am, with the journey lasting four hours before the train returns to Clarksdale at 2:30 pm. If you prefer an adventure later in the day, then on a few select Saturdays, there is an evening ride where you can watch the sunset and enjoy the stars from the window of your carriage.

The Ultimate Presley Experience

If you enjoy a bit of Elvis, then The Ultimate Presley Experience on June 10 should be on your list of events for the summer. The evening is more than just about music, as the event also includes a BBQ dinner (vegetarian choices are also offered) before the concert starts.

The show is taking place at The Blazin’M Ranch, at 1875 Mabery Rd, and features Rick Lenzi, one of the most well-regarded Elvis tribute acts. He is known for his fantastic voice, performs in authentically designed costumes, and gets close to recreating the legend.

Flagstaff Art in the Park

The July 4 weekend is always a great time to get out and about and find something interesting to do., and the Flagstaff Art in the Park festival fits perfectly within this category. The show is a mecca for local artists, attracting nearly 70 from all across the region.

The shows occur between July 1-3 at Wheelpark in Flagstaff, around an hour and fifteen-minute drive north via the I-17. As well as the arts and demonstrations, there is plenty to occupy you with live music each day and lots of food options. Indeed, it will pay to make a day of it, so be sure to pack up your Chrysler Pacifica with rugs and sunscreen to enjoy the art and music in comfort.
