Just Down the Road: 4 Local Bookstores Near Cottonwood, AZ

Cottonwood, AZ has quite a few small bookstores, many of them carrying stacks of affordable used books. Our favorite shops will give you plenty of reasons to use the spacious cargo area in your 2022 Jeep Cherokee Latitude LUX. Here’s our list of the top four local places to find your next read.

1. Hooked on Books

There is some confusion surrounding the name of this used bookshop in Cottonwood. The sign out front is in yellow and says “Books” and you may see Hooked on Books or Anchor Books online. This used bookshop is located at 148 S Main St. They’re open from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on weekdays and closed on weekends.

The store is cozy with stacks everywhere. You’ll find a lot of older paperbacks with unique covers. This store sells books, art supplies, old records, and DVDs. They’re a great spot if you’re looking to find older children’s books.

2. Stardust Books

This is a newer shop in the area and is located four miles from Cottonwood in Clarksdale. You’ll find it located at 907 Main St. They are open from Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. This is a great shop to look for children’s books and adult fiction, both new and used.

Stardust Books is building its reputation with book boxes. They include a book with little gift items inside that match the theme and tone of the story. These are particularly popular during the holiday season as gifts. When in the physical shop, they will let you order books and have them sent to your home.

3. Worm Book

This shop has been in the area for over 20 years. It has an unusual reputation as a used and new bookshop that also rents moving trucks. They are located seven miles from downtown Cottonwood at 6101 E Coury Dr in Camp Verde. They are open from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm Sunday and Monday and from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Tuesday through Saturday.

This is a very small shop with a great reputation, in part because the owner is so kind. They will order books for you if they don’t have them in the store.

4. Twice Nice Thriftique

This is a local thrift shop where readers in the know come to find used books. They have a rather large selection in the back corner of the store with multiple shelves. They are located right here in town at 297 S Main St. Their hours are from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm on Monday through Saturday.
